Herring Fart to Communicate, yup they do… or at least there is scientific evidence for that from A 2003 study. As it appears the Herring are farting in order to alert other Herring in a high pitched fart that only Herring (or at least mostly Herring) can hear, that can come in handy when a bigger predator is after you.
