Here are two things you probably did not know about the Sea of Galilee (best known for the place where it is said Jesus has walked on water):
- It is not really a sea, it is a freshwater lake (a.k.a Lake Tiberias or Kinneret) and it is not really a big lake either, it is only 53 kilometers (33 miles) in circumference, about 21 kilometers (13 miles) long, and 13 kilometers (8.1 miles) wide. The Sea of Galilee’s maximum depth is roughly 43 meters (141 feet).
- The Sea of Galilee’s is the lowest freshwater lake on Earth and the second-lowest lake in the world (after the Dead Sea, a saltwater lake which is 90 minutes car ride from there – 122 kilometers or 75 miles).
